Not To Brag, But…
July 30th, 2007 by Mike
So the other day I was on the net and I thought it might be fun to “Google” my name. I understand that this isn’t exactly a new idea but if you haven’t tried this, I highly recommend you do!
I figured that that my website would do well in the search rankings as there are not too many Michael McKinlays in the world. Turns out that the number one result when “Michael McKinlay” is googled is about some playwright in Washington. Daaaahhh! Oh well… what can you do?
When you search Google, it gives thousands and thousands of results. It was nice to see that some of my posts from my blog came up as individual results. However, I then found something that was directly related to me, but not actually a part of my website… It was a link to an article that I had written to the Editorial section of the Regina Leader-Post newspaper. (I spent a good part of my young adult years in Regina, and my parents still live there.)
The article was regarding Saskatchewan’s booming housing market. I think Saskatchewan is a nice place to live but the problem is that there are not a lot of good jobs there. I mean thats great that houses are less than half of what they are in Calgary, but if you dont have a job to make the mortgage payment, what’s the use?
So I wrote a letter and sent it in to local Regina newspaper. I didnt think it would go much further than being published in the paper but it turns out that someone actually took the time to post my article on their site. Check it out here!
Anyway it was kind of cool seeing my thoughts on someone else’s page and once again its amazing to see what the internet allows us to be capable of!

Mike, that’s absolutely brilliant, good for you! If I were you, I’d drop Ms. Millar a thank you email and ask her if she’d be kind enough to link your name to your blog.
By the way, you come up first for “Michael McKinlay” on my local Google data center. The Washington playwright sits below you in second.
I’m not first for my real name, but I take first place for “Spud Oregon”
Ignore that suggestion for getting a link back. I’ve just noticed she already links to you! Lots of good news today, eh?
