50/50 Tickets At The U of C Dino’s Hockey Game

November 2nd, 2007 by Mike

I'm gonna win, I can feel it!

Last week I went to another U of C Dino’s hockey game and I did something that I never do. I bought “50/50″ tickets. Now I’m not sure how popular “50/50″ lotteries are, but I imagine other sports use the same concept for fundraising.

If you dont know what “50/50″ tickets are, then let me explain… “50/50″ tickets (in my experience anyway) are sold at hockey games and tournaments for fundraising. It’s basically a lottery run by the hosting team with a draw being held during a break in play. 50% of the money goes to the team selling the tickets and 50% goes to the winner. Hence, the name “50/50.”

Another cool thing about “50/50″ tickets is that you can buy 3 different “sizes.”

1. Individual tickets($1 per ticket - worst value)
2. Arm’s length($5 per arm’s length - they take the roll of tickets and literally measure it up against your arm - it’s not exactly a fair distribution but hey it’s good value.)
3. Armspan length($10 per wingspan - they take the roll of tickets and you spread your arms out as far as you can and they measure the tickets across your Armspan, again not exactly accurate but it most certainly is the best value!)

Despite buying the $10 armspan tickets, I lost the $128 prize being offered that night. Oh well, maybe next time… At least the other $128 went to a good cause!

That sounds like a fun way to raise money, though with your wingspan you have a definite advantage! You say the $128 went to a good cause, but made no mention of charities :???: .

If it is that good I think your chances of winning are close to non. However you will never win if you don’t buy. Good luck next time
