Credit Cards, What Are They Good For?

Every once in a while I’ll get a call or advertisement in the mail for a new credit card. I rarely ever apply for a credit card since the ones that I have are more than enough for my needs. The only time I ever apply for a new card is when I go shopping and in order to get a good deal on an item that I need. For example, the store may have an offer in that if I apply and am accepted for that particular store’s credit card, I’ll receive a significant discount on my purchase.

I’m not sure why, but it seems that a lot of people have issues when it comes to managing their credit. Everyone knows that the interest rates on credit cards are huge and if there is one rule with credit cards, you should never, ever, spend more than you can afford to pay off at the end of the month. The interest will kill you. That said, I find that credit cards are quite convenient and a necessary in today’s world. Not just for making purchases at stores but for building a credit history so that when you get a mortgage the bank will know how you are at paying your debts.

Like everything else, credit cards have different rates. In fact, sometimes you can find good deals on balance transfers. You may even find 0% credit cards, although those are tough to come by. Good luck in your credit card search!
