Essent ISU World Cup Speed Skating in Calgary
November 15th, 2007 by Mike
I work at the University of Calgary and when I’m on my lunch break I often go for a walk over to the Olympic Oval. The Oval is very close to my office, it only takes me about 5 minutes to get there.
I’m not really sure why I often choose the Oval as my destination, but it’s probably because it’s huge and there is always something to see there. One lap around the long track is 400 metres, and within that 400 metre loop is an Olympic sized Ice Hockey rink AND a Short Track Speed Skating rink. I’ve been to the building many times but even now I still can’t get over the size. It’s so big that you could probably fit some decent sized Colorado real estate in there!
The building often accomodates many different atheletes at the same time. On a typical day, you may see the U of C Dino’s hockey team practising, speed skaters training, or even figure skaters practising their routines.
I have a video of the Oval below. The video is mainly just of speed skaters preparing for their competion as the 2007 Essent ISU World Cup Speed Skating Challenge is taking place in a couple of days. Enjoy.

So is that the McMahon stadium, Canada’s fifth largest stadium, with seating for 35,650? Is it the one built for the 1980 Winter Olympics, which is known as the first successful Olypmpics games because it actually turned a profit? Is it the home venue for the University of Calgary Dinos, Calgary Colts of the Canadian Junior Football League, Calgary Gators and Calgary Wolfpack of the Alberta Football League, and the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, who formerly played at Mewata Stadium from 1935 to 1959?
If so, then, yeah, I know it.
Ahhh Nick, you think you are so smart but you are completely wrong! You are referring to McMahon stadium which is a football stadium in Calgary.. If you had taken the time to read what you copied and pasted you would have seen that whatever you copied refers to football teams… Do you think football teams are going to play on massive sheets of ice! ah…. sometimes……
