Arts in St. Augustine, Florida

November 25th, 2007 by Mike

I’ve never been to St. Augustine, Florida but apparently it’s America’s oldest city! It sounds like a pretty funky place because on Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th, along with the first Weekend of each month thereafter, the city’s art galleries sponsor an event called ‘First Friday Weekend Art Walk’. This event features the self guided monthly St. Augustine Artwalk and the event also features the finest collection of eclectic art in North Florida.

One of the cool things about this event is that the cost is minimal. There is plenty of free parking and there are also Sightseeing Train and Trolley tours available. There are all kinds of art there from painting to photography, architecture, music and more. Florida may be known for DisneyWorld, beautiful beaches, the Everglades and endless orchards but if you are looking for some culture this is something to look forward to.

I haven’t been to St. Augustine but I’ve gone to other artsy type festivals in different cities and while I’m not an artsy person they are quite a bit of fun. You will always see things there that you never expected and if nothing else, it’s fun to watch all the people. There are usually lots of street performers and like I said the cost is minimal. So go and check it out!
