Queens of the Stone Age in Calgary
November 28th, 2007 by Mike
Back in August, Queens of the Stone Age came to Calgary to promote their latest album, “Era Vulgaris.” To be honest I hadn’t really heard the new album before the show, but I’ve been a fan for a few years now and knew it would be worth going to to hear some of their older songs.
It was a pretty good show and the lead singer(Josh Homme) had some pretty funny comments through out. I can’t repeat most of them on this blog but I appreciated that the guy had sense of humor and didn’t take himself too seriously.
The band sounded pretty tight which was great but the bass sounded funny. I think this was due to the fact that they were playing a show in an old hockey arena. As you can imagine the acoustics in the place would be less than stellar but what can you do?
Queens play fairly hard rock but it amazes me how intricate the songs can be at different times. They are extremely talented and while they are great to listen to just watching them play is extremely entertaining. I’ll leave you with a video from David Letterman’s late show.
