The Hotels of Las Vegas
January 26th, 2008 by Mike
When people travel they often like to do the tourist thing and see the sights. I, on the other hand am not a big fan of sight-seeing and prefer to visit my friends and observe everyday people go about their business. However when I went to Vegas I really enjoyed walking up and down the strip and looking at all of the hotels. Vegas is an amazing place and even if all you do is just gawk at all of the hotels there, I’d say it’s still worth the trip. Here are some of the pictures that I took

The Stratosphere is one of the newer hotels on the strip. This is a picture of the main tower and doesn’t include the hotel(I just couldn’t fit it all in!) On the top of this tower is an observation deck and there are a few amusement rides on the top. I’ll post more on that later!

The Plaza hotel is probably one of Vegas’s more famous hotels and is located at the end of Fremont Street.

I stayed in Circus Circus for one night. The hotel itself was a bit of a contradiction as the room was nicely furnished and incredibly large, yet the hallways looked run down with wallpaper that was starting to peel off.
Circus Circus features some free acrobatic shows and you don’t even have to be a guest at the hotel to watch them. I think they also have a huge amusement park, but unfortunately I didn’t have time to check it out.

Many Vegas hotels feature something in front of them to attract people inside. The Mirage below has a volcano that “erupts” every 30 minutes or so. Its definitely something to see as fire literally shoots out from it.

The Venetian

Treasure Island is another hotel which features a free performance a few times each day. It’s basically a pirate show. Unfortunately the show was on a break during my stay in Vegas but I saw it about 10 years ago and it was pretty good. Don’t remember much but a bunch of sword fights and people falling off the ship and in to the water.

The Palazzo will soon open and judging from the outside it looks like a beautiful hotel. Next time I’m in town I will have to go check it out.

There seems to be so much in Vegas it makes me wonder how big it really is. I always imagined it was just a big street, but you make it sound like Disneyland. Is it a real city with houses, schools, and soccer teams, or just a theme park for grown ups?
Las Vegas has a population over 500,000, so yeah it’s actually a reasonably sized city on it’s own. I think I read somewhere though that it has 200,000 hotel rooms and it’s airport is the 7th busiest one in the States.
The Strip and Freemont Strip are an adult playground but outside of that I think they city looks faily normal.
To me they all look like Japanese “Love Hotels” ! Ichinomiya in Gifu has quite often been called
little Vegas haa haa haa and now I can see why. Mike you certainly took some great pics and it makes me want to go there!!!

Good comparison Keith! Yeah I know you’re not a huge fan of the States but I think it would definitely be worth going! We could be high rollers! If only we had the money!!!
Next time you make it over to Canada we should head down there for a couple of days. It would be worth the trip and who know what shananigans we could get up to!
