The Canadian Duty Free Shop Joke
February 11th, 2008 by Mike
One of the things about living in a country with two official languages is that sometimes things can get lost in translation. In Canada, the two official languages are English and French. By law, all federal government agencies have to keep records in both languages.

Thankfully there are a lot of bilingual Canadians, giving the government a huge supply of well-qualified translators. However, even when things are translated correctly they can sometimes come out sounding funny. A perfect example of this is French translation of “Duty Free” which translates to “Hors Taxes.” Haha get it??? Oh we sure are a bunch of crazy Canadians, eh?

Nope, sorry, I don’t get it. Please explain what’s so funny about “Hors taxes”
You’re right Nick, there is nothing funny about this. I’m sorry that I ever put it up.
Actually I agree with Nick amd don’t get it!!! Does it mean “Whores” and tax you have to
pay if you use one??? Sorry if that sounds a bit rude but that is the only thing I could come
up with!!
Keith
Sorry but I’m so stupid stupid stupid!!
Well, I guess it’s not funny, but I can promise you this… they tax everything in Canada!
Sorry Mike but Nick and I just have no sense of humour!!
Keith

Do the mountees treat their horses like whores??? Aaaah I’m confused too!!
Ok first of all mounties are not spelled “mountees” and second of all, I don’t know.
