The Long Drive on Interstate 15 - Part 3
February 21st, 2008 by Mike

This is the final installment on my series on driving on Interstate 15. In the first part I featured photos from Montana, Idaho, and Utah. In the second part I featured photos from Nevada and Arizona. Here’s a few more photos and some from when I was returning to Canada.
This is a short little video shot just as I was leaving Phoenix. You’ll notice that I’m driving in lane that has a diamond marking, which symbolizes the lane as a high occupancy vehicle lane. It’s quite common to have these car lanes in large North American cities. The idea behind them is that it will encourage people to car pool since legally you must have at least 2 people in the car to drive in them.
I’m actually not totally sure where this next photo was taken. I think it might have been taken in Montana. Anyway a nice shot of the snow covered mountains.

I drove a total of about 6000 km on this trip and when you’re averaging around 1100 km a day you’d better stay alert. I don’t like using them but sometimes energy drinks give you that extra boost you need to keep aware, except when you take your eyes off the road while slamming it back

When you drive a long ways your car is going to get dirty! Especially when driving through rain, sleet, and snow! This is what my Mom’s 2003 Honda Accord looked like after 3000 km…

and after a car wash….

I simply like to call this photo, “the cockpit.”

Finally. this is a shot of the Northern Montana sky during sunset.

That “high occupancy vehicle lane” is quite bizarre. It’s a good idea if you’ve got police officers on the roadside enforcing it, but surely there are better incentives to car pool, such as splitting the cost of gas.
Is that a gps on your dashboard?
It sure is!
