One thing about the United States is that the military is a huge institution. In 2005, 42% of the America’s income tax went to fund the military’s 783 billion dollar budget. Incredible.

Of course when you are constantly fighting in unpopular wars against other nations or “groups” you would need a large budget. Having billions of dollars allows you to hire and train a lot soldiers but then again finding people willing to have limbs blown off or worse can be challenging. Hmmm… If I was the military where could I possibly go to find enough young and less educated people that would be willing to go halfway round the world to fight in an unpopular war?

Oh I know, the shopping mall of course! When I was in the States, I took photos of these recruiment offices located next to other stores in the mall.

The military has been questioned for some of it’s recruitment practices as of late. For example, to increase recruiting numbers they offer benefits such as signing bonuses and college funds to prospective recruits. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be enough these days, and so I’ve heard that the military has been lowering it’s mental and physical standards for new soldiers.

So yeah next time you go shopping maybe you can grab a Mochachino at Starbucks, buy those Khaki’s at Old Navy that you’ve been wanting for like ever, and then sign up with the Marines to go kill Osama and friends in some cave, half a world a way! Hoooooooo-aaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!
