God Bless U.S. Customs and Border Protection

June 7th, 2008 by Mike

On my recent trip to Japan I had to travel through the United States. This was due to the fact that I bought a ticket on an American airline because it was significantly cheaper than flying Air Canada.

As bad as the American government is when it comes to foreign policy I have to say that Americans are pretty cool people in general. I’ve traveled to America many times and up until recently my parents had a small vacation home there. Americans don’t have the greatest reputation in the world but if you get the chance to visit the U.S.A. I’m sure you will have a good time. I guess I’m speaking from a customer service standpoint as for me its always been great!

Border crossings have become quite strict, especially after 9/11. I’ve been fortunate in that each time I’ve crossed the border it’s been a fast process. Thanks America! I have to say that I was really impressed with this sign posted at the Customs area. I couldn’t believe that even the American government cares about customer service! (Well, at least enough to post this sign.) I mean they seem to be more in tune with customer service than most retail stores. Way to go America! :)

Mike,

It’s nice to read your positive comments and to hear your experiences have been favorable. It is a difficult task we have to do. Long hours of forced overtime and irate passengers who have been screwed over by the airlines make the job that much harder many days. It is of critical importance that we keep out those people that would do our country or citizens harm. We have a VERY short time to make these decisions while the traveller is standing in front of us yet most of us still try to do it with a smile. I hope you return to visit again and enjoy many of the great sites our country has to offer.

I totally sympathize with you Ed. I also serve a large volume of clients in my job and we get our fair share of angry people.

I’m definitely looking forward to my next visit and imagine that it won’t be long before I’m back!

That was great that Ed saw your comment and thought to write. Americans are our neighbors and as far as I am concerned are great people. It is always great to hear of their thoughts and opinions. Even though we are separate countries we are always interested in their politics and news. That was great that Ed saw your blog!!!
