Chris G has written 8 random facts about himself, and has tagged me in his post so here goes nothing!
1. I’ve been to Japan 6 times. 3 times for business, (when I say “business” I mean teaching English) and 3 times for pleasure. I definitely prefer pleasure.
2. Much like Chris, I also ride my bike to work everyday. It’s great exercise AND it saves me cash money yo! It’s also great for the environment and is actually faster than taking the train or driving. Yes, I am that fast. (Plus I take short-cuts and disobey all traffic laws.)
3. Almost assaulted by Mexican pimps. OK so I was in Mexico on a university class field trip when my fellow students decided to have a party at the hotel’s pool. A day earlier I had run in to these two sexy Mexican girls who were also staying at the hotel. I wanted to invite them to the party and since I had their room number I gave them a call. My friend, who spoke a bit of Spanish asked them to meet us at the pool. They didn’t understand him and so I decided to go to their room to convince them to come out. They didn’t seem to want to leave their room and invited me in, after a few minutes I finally gave up and decided to leave. As I was leaving there were these two rough looking Mexican dudes standing outside the room. I then realized that these chicks weren’t “couriers” on business like they claimed to be and figured out that the two guys were their pimps. The pimps didn’t prevent me from leaving but they didn’t look very pleased either.
4. I do not like beer and most other types of alcohol, with the exception of “girl drinks.” Alcohol just doesn’t do it for me. Besides anyone who knows me knows that being an idiot comes easy to me. I don’t need no alcohol to do that!
5. A few years ago in Japan, I got lost looking for my friend’s house in the middle of the night. When I finally found someone that could give me directions and showed them the address, they had no idea where it was. That was kind of funny since my friend’s place turned out to be only a 3 minute walk away.
6. I once annoyed an internet tanning salon group so much with my post on tanning salons that I actually had to “turn off” the comments field for that post. You can check out the comments section here. I should say though that I deleted the most offensive comments.
7. I was banned from a medieval world in Second Life for evil misdemeanors. In retaliation, I’ve banned Second Life from my computer.
8. I do not own a car. Most of my friends are shocked that I don’t have one since I live in a city where public transportation isn’t the greatest. To be honest, I just can’t justify the financial expense. Sure, it would make life a bit more convenient but overall the expenses outweigh the benefits.
Neil, Jason and Mark, I pass the torch on to you!
Here are the rules:
1. People who are tagged need to write a post containing 8 random facts about themselves.
2. At the end of the post you should name several other bloggers to be tagged.
3. Leave a comment for the bloggers and link to your own post.

My name is Michael McKinlay and I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Although I was born here, I have lived in a few other places in Western Canada such as, Saskatoon, Regina, Medicine Hat, and Edmonton. I also spent time in Hong Kong and Japan. [
Second Life just hasn’t been the same since my Net Buddy got banned for evil misdemeanors….
Sorry buddy! We had a lot of crazy adventures there!
Another extremely amusing post Mike …. the tanning salon experience is my fave.
Yeah, don’t mess with tanning salon forum groups!
lol Mike.
I’m in a similar situation at the mo. Just sold my car because financially it made no sense to keep it. People tend to look at me funny when I say I don’t have a car. If I’m travelling any sort of distance I prefer to use the train anyway because then I can get more sleep!
I’ll be chucking my 10-year old car at the end of the year. Good riddance! I rarely use it anyway. Instead, I’m going to buy myself an one of those fancy “eco” bicycles, you know, the ones that run by pedal power. It should cost no more than the monthly insurance on my car!
It’s been nearly 4 years since I last had a car and I’ve never regretted it! Although I’ve changed my lifestyle a bit in that location is everything! I’ve done that by living close to my work and public transportation. Besides, if I really need to I can always rent a car. I love not having to worry about traffic tickets, gas prices, parking tickets, insurance, accidents, maintenance and repairs. Oh and I’m also saving the world!
Hehe, mexican pimps.
Mike, you’ve gotta embellish those Mexican pimp stories a little more.
Got my 8 randoms up. Rather than talk about just anything, I figured this would be a good opportunity to disclose 8 reasons I suck when it comes to success
Be warned! I am your doom!
That was a good post Jason!
Thanks, Mike. Looking back at the 8 items, I think I forgot a few things … but it’s a good thing we were limited to only 8 facts, not 26
Speaking of which, do you have any more details on your mid-night journey throughout lightless Japan when you were in search of a house less than 5 minutes away? I’m sure that’d be a fun story
