My Trip To Regina, Saskatchewan

This past weekend was a long weekend here in Canada and so I took the opportunity to go home and visit the folks. Regina is about 750 kilometers from Calgary and so that added up to being a fairly long drive. The trip there took about 8 hours but that’s cause I stopped in Medicine Hat for about an hour, getting gas, eating dinner, and taking these wild and crazy pics!

If you ever go through Medicine Hat you might want to stop off at the Medicine Hat Lodge where you will find this awesome chair in the lobby. Time well spent eh?

My parents have recently completed a number of extensive renovations to their home. It’s a shame that I don’t have a “before” picture because the place looks completely different from 2 or 3 years ago. I should see if I can dig some photos up somewhere, but until then here is the “after” shot.

Neighbors have given great comments on the rennovations and even the wasps have decided that they like it! My parents thought about “evicting” them but then my Dad read on the net that if they are not bothering anyone, live and let live! Hey man those wasps help rid the garden of pests and even help out with cross-pollination! Thanks Wasps!

Regina is a small city and for some reason a lot of people like to knock it. Some say it’s because the city has such a wicked name while others say that they are insecure about their own city. However, I say that… Regina rules! Sure it’s quiet and a bit slow but much like Posh Spice, it sure is pretty. Eat your heart out all other cities!

Downtown

Here’s some photos of the provincial government building. It was built about 100 years ago with materials from all over the world. It’s fancy, and when I say fancy, I mean “faaaaaaaaaaaaancyyyyy!!!”

Here I am making AND breaking the law all at the same time!

This last shot is of me with my 91 year old Grandpa. Grandpa is getting on in years but he’s still taking care of business and getting it done. Check out his mad gardening skills in the background and that cigarette in his right hand!

What is this “pingback” sh#t Mike? Actually was a nice change not to see anything about Japan haa haa haa!! Your Pa looks great for 91!!!!!!!!!!!

Ummm Nick is probably a better person to ask than I am but basically a ping back is when someone links to your blog. This is a good thing if it comes from a legitimate blog, the problem is that many of the pingbacks that I get are from like spammer blogs. So therefore I just end up erasing them.

Yeah its nice to finally write about something other than Japan and that is actually current!

Yep my Grandpa is a pretty cool dude. He has some unhealthy habits like smoking and loads up on butter and salt when eating but he keeps pretty active and I think that’s the secret to his longevity.

Remember Mike, you’re getting a lot of spammy pingbacks because you turned off the Bad Behavior plugin. You turned it off because it stopped you from submitting articles to Digg. If you’re not using Digg anymore, you could always reactivate the plugin, or do what I did and use Akismet instead of the Spam Karma/Bad Behavior combo.

So you’re saying tobacco, salt and butter are fine… just as long a you stay active? Sounds fair to me! ;)

          Thanks for the tips Nick.

Nope I’m not saying that. I’m just saying that’s what my Grandpa does. I think he’s been pretty lucky but especially in regards to the tobacco part. He must have some immunity to Cancer, (knock on wood.) I think the other big thing with him is that he has always stayed active. The man is a worker and can’t sit still for very long… Although he really is starting to slow down these days. He likes to say “My get up and go has got up and went.”

You’re right about that government building. The further away you go the fancier it gets!

  5. Mike says
