OMG – MichaelMcKinlay.com Hacked!

So recently I noticed that traffic to my blog has dropped. I thought of some reasons why this might be and these are some of the possible reasons that I came up with…

1) My blog hasn’t been very interesting as of late.
2) People are just taking a break from reading my blog for whatever reason.
or…
3) I just haven’t been writing as much lately and so therefore less updates=less traffic.

I mentioned this to my Net Buddy 4 Life, Nick Ramsay and after a little snooping around Nick found that my site had been hacked in to! Apparently I had some hidden code at the bottom of my page that was one of those things that spammers always spam you with. Anyway the consequence of that was that Google had dropped me in their rankings, which resulted in less people finding my blog.

Nick fixed my page and suggested that I write Google to let them know that the problem was corrected and to beg them reinstate my rankings. I don’t know how long it will be before they get around to answering my request but once they do I will let you know. Not that you really care because you are already here and so I can only assume that you are a regular visitor. Hey, you’re a regular visitor… thanks for your continued visits! You can truly consider yourself a hardcore MichaelMcKinlay fan! ;)

Maybe you’re more popular than you think Mike, i mean if someones going to go to the trouble of hacking you then there must be some popularity there!

Thanks Neil, but it could be that they just targeted me because I use wordpress which is susceptible to problems like this. I hope it doesn’t happen again and that google restores my rankings soon. My traffic has died!

I bet it was the Dalhousie banjo guy. He was probably upset you didn’t like his music.

Or perhaps it was an evil caper…

Not me, though. I’m all about the evil knitting capers.

Wow. Sorry to hear about your spammer problems.

Yep, that kind of sucked but that’s what happens when you are on the net I guess!
