I hate to admit it but I don’t read books as much as I should. It’s kind of funny because I love going to bookstores and briefly reading sections of random books, but for me to actually finish a book is something that doesn’t happen very often. Thankfully, today I can report something different!
I just finished reading the official biography of the world famous guitarist, Slash. Slash is mainly known for his time as the lead guitarist in Guns N’ Roses but he has also been quite successful with other projects like Slash’s Snakepit and currently Velvet Revolver.
Slash’s book while long(457 pages), was a good read. Slash has certainly lived the rock star’s life and every stereotype you might expect to find about the rock star lifestyle is here in spades! Almost to the point of cliche!
For a good part of the book Slash goes in to great depth regarding his drug use and there are a few things that really amaze me in regards to that:
1) The amount of drug abuse the human body can take.
and
2) How he remembers it all… You’d think that a guy that stoned out of his mind for as many years wouldn’t remember a thing (i.e. Mick Jagger) yet somehow Slash remembers a lot of detail. Apparently he has always kept a journal and so I guess most of his thoughts have been recorded there.
Slash seems to be a pretty honest and down to earth guy and that was probably my favorite part of the book. When you read it it feels like he’s talking to you. Slash has certainly made many mistakes over the years and I love the fact that he’s open about it all. He also doesn’t talk a lot of trash about others and you have to respect that as well. All in all I’d say that the book is worth the read but I’d very much recommend that you do like I did, and borrow it from the library.

Nice review Mike, i was a big fan of GnR in years gone by so maybe i’ll read this one day. I’m also just watching Rockstar Supernova again which i love …. man i wish i was a Rockstar!
What are you talking about? You are a rock star! Hell, just last week you were hanging out with Tila Tequila in Tokyo!
Or maybe she was hanging out with you!
Slash? Never ‘eard of ‘im.
I will affectionately call you a “musical retard.”
I never heard of slash either but did read Tatum O’Neil’s book and I would say they are similar and you could understand how her life was full of bad decisions but even though she loved her children and still thinks the world of them she continues to make bad choices and I think she believes she has an addictive personality. Hopefully she can take control of her life and get back on track.——-Not worded greatly but you get the idea.
