Do I Stand Alone? – Jesse Ventura Book Review

Jesse Ventura - Do I Stand Alone? Book Cover

Just finished another one of Jesse Ventura’s books. Now I know what you are saying… “Oh Mike, he’s a meat head professional wrestler who got lucky in politics. Who cares what he thinks?” Well I say shame on you sir/madam!!! After reading this I have to say I was quite impressed with the man and his common sense approach to policies.

Ventura wrote this after he had spent a year or two in office. One of the most interesting things about Ventura (besides his pro-wrestling background) is that he won his office as an independent. Unlike most other politicians, Ventura has no party line to tow and no one to hold him back from saying what he really thinks.

Ventura talks about everything in this book from pork barrel politics, campaign funding, special interest groups, media coverage, the constitution and amendments as well as other issues facing the government. Ventura talks about the system from an insiders perspective which is quite enlightening. One of my favorite parts of the book was when Ventura talked about the two party system in America and how there should be more choice. Ventura says that although America is a freedom loving country, they technically only have one more vote than the communists. Now, that doesn’t sound very American!

I really enjoyed this book because Ventura tells it like it is. I don’t always agree with everything Ventura says but I have to say that he makes a lot of good points on a wide variety of issues. If you are interested in politics than I’d recommend you pick this book up, from your local libary of course! :)
