Japanese Snobbery

Japan 2009 566

So this past August I was wondering the streets of Kyoto, Japan when I noticed that there were a number of signs with the word “snob.” I was kind of wondering if there were a bunch of arrogant, good for nothing rich people around but after some investigation I realized that the Japanese just like listing “snob ” to the names of hair salons.

Japan has a lot of funny English but this one is kind of bizarre. Anywho, that’s how they do it in Japan!

I got mine from Uniqlo but I’m not sure if they have more…

I was more interested in the Kewpie shirt myself. I love that mayo. If I can afford it, Kewpie mayo is the only choice in my house!

if you can afford it???? lol!

I only purchase a kewpie mayo for a special occasion. That small cute bottle costs about $5 at a Japanese grocery store where I live and that is the only place close to my house that sells it. I love to eat it on my Yakisoba, Okonomiyaki, salads, and sandwiches!!

Yeah I know anything from Japan can be pretty expensive. Maybe next time you go to Japan, you can stock up!

Fun post Michael. I checked out the web site at the very bottom of the sign in the first picture (snob.co.jp no less…), and I definately think something has been lost in translation here…. The site even has ’snob TV’….. haha

    • Mike says

Yeah I saw that website too. Snob TV could be the wave of the future!
